In 2018, the Japanese Olympic Committee made it very clear that gaming and Esports would not be admitted into the book of recognized sports, officially citing health concerns as the primary factor. One short year later, the International Olympic Committee, contrary to many beliefs, stated that Esports athletes should be considered “comparable to actual athletes”.
At Totsu Corporation, we recognize Esports’ merits as a sport, but also as its part in the current cultural landscape. As such, to us, it is not mere leisure, nor is it simply an educational tool. It is a chance to partake in the growing cultural phenomenon that is organized, professional Esports competition, an irrefutable part of this increasingly digital landscape. With catered support, a team can go from a high-school club to competing in the highest leagues, and make the experience of becoming a professional athlete.
Totsu’s holistic approach to team growth, focusing not only on the in-game aspects, but also physical fitness and mental well-being allows Esports to be just as fruitful and (even physically) healthy as any other sport. At Totsu, we aim to provide a training program that places a great deal of emphasis on supporting our athlete’s future ambitions, supporting them and fostering skills that will transcend their time as professional athletes.
We provide a breadth of solutions including providing both digital and hands-on infrastructure for Esports events, as well as technical support for any Esports endeavours. Equally, we support up-and-coming teams and coaches with the requisite gear, talent management and organisation needed to run an Esports enterprise and team. Totsu is committed to our vision of a new generation of Japanese and international Esports players, and supporting them by providing for their needs and encouraging their curiosity.Regardless of the challenges Japan faces currently, we at Totsu remain steadfast in our convictions in building the necessary infrastructure and nurturing the Esports talent present all around us.
