Interview Content (Ian-san)
1.Basic Information
•Could you please introduce yourself again? (Your name, affiliated organization, etc.)
-My name is Ian Johansson, I am currently a 3rd year university student at Nagoya University of Commerce and Business
•What do you study at university?
-I study International Business
•Have you experienced any difficulties with Japanese workplace culture?
-The most difficult experience has been the language barrier. But due to my co-worker translating japanese for me it has been very smooth. I am also apart of a bukatsu so I have some experience in how japanese workplace culture operates
•Have you felt any cultural differences? (In daily life or business culture)
-I have felt the cultural difference. Like the hierarchy culture, how the meetings work inside businesses.
•Have you experienced any difficulties in daily life in Japan?
-Not many difficulties, the main one just being the language barrier.
•What was the duration of your internship (from when to when)?
-From August 4th to August 29th
2. Work Content
•During your internship, which department were you mainly assigned to?
-I was mainly in the Customer success department.
•What kind of experiences (work tasks) did you have?
-Brainstorming Ideas for Esports cafe and exposure, attending business meetings, creating marketing ideas, finding good locations to build an Esports cafe
•Which job or task interests you the most?
-Everything related to Esports. As someone who likes playing games a lot it helped being able to work in a field I am interested in
•Please also tell us why.
-I have a big passion for video games and playing them so it helped me stay passionate about creating a bigger culture of it here in Japan
•On the other hand, what job or task did you find the most difficult?
-Some difficult tasks were in the beginning when trying to understand where would be a good place to put in an Esports cafe. As it was my first time working in this environment I had a lack of experience and made a lot of mistakes in the process
•How did you deal with it?
-Trial and Error, my Co-worker Taiga was guiding me throughout my internship here and it allowed me to realize my mistakes and learn how to fix them.
3. Learning and Growth
•What new things did you learn through the internship?
-I learned how a Japanese business operates. I learned about the process of Marketing and how precise it has to be.
•How do you feel your skills and knowledge have grown?
-I feel like I have gotten experience that can not be achieved at school, by working hands-on on projects and applying what I learned at school into real life.
•How do you feel your strengths and talents were applied to your work?
-I was put in a position that required a lot of critical thinking and creativity so my brain and thoughts were being pushed.
4. Support and Feedback
•How did you feel about the support you received from your tutor or team members?
-The support has been amazing, everyone was very kind and friendly and I never felt lost
•Were there areas where you felt more support would have been helpful?
-No the support was great
•What impression do you have about communication with team members?
-Everyone was very communicative and open to talk despite me not being the best in Japanese. Some even tried to speak a little bit of English with me which was very kind
5. Overall Evaluation of the Internship
•Looking back, what aspects of your internship experience were good?
-I was able to gain a lot of insight on Japanese business culture and operations. I was able to immerse myself in Japanese culture. I got more opportunities to practice my Japanese language skills
•What aspects do you feel need improvement?
-There is no need for improvement
•What is your objective impression of Totsu as a company?
-Totsu is a great company with amazing individuals, with an amazing vision that I hope I can get the opportunity to work with again in the future.
•What is your impression of Totsu’s employees?
-The employees are all very hard working and kind. Very passionate as well, it is obvious to see how much they care about their jobs. I am very appreciative of how supportive they all were towards me

◆イアンさんについて
・改めて、自己紹介をして頂けますか
私の名前はイアン・ヨハンソンです。現在、名古屋商科大学の3年生です。
・大学では何を専攻していますか？
国際ビジネスを専攻しています。
・日本の職場文化で難しさを感じたことはありますか？
最も難しかったのは言語の壁です。しかし、同僚が日本語を翻訳してくれたので、とてもスムーズでした。また、部活にも所属しているので、日本の職場文化がどのように機能しているかについて多少の経験があります。
・文化の違いを感じたことはありますか？（日常生活やビジネス文化で）
文化の違いは感じました。例えば、上下関係の文化や、企業内での会議の進め方などです。
・日本での日常生活で大変さを感じたことはありますか？
あまりありません。主なものはやはり言語の壁です。
・インターンシップの期間はいつからいつまででしたか？
8月4日から8月29日までです。
◆業務内容について
・インターンシップ中、主にどの部署に配属されましたか？
主にカスタマーサクセス部門にいました。
・どのような仕事を経験しましたか？
eスポーツカフェやその認知度を高めるためのアイデア出し、ビジネス会議への参加、マーケティングアイデアの作成、eスポーツカフェを設置するための場所の調査などです。
・最も興味を持ったタスクは何ですか？
eスポーツに関連するすべてです。ゲームをするのが好きなので、自分の興味のある分野で働けたことは良かったです。
・その理由も教えてください。
私はビデオゲームをプレイすることに大きな情熱を持っているので、日本でその文化を広げることに情熱を持ち続けることができました。
・逆に、最も難しかったタスクは何ですか？
最初にeスポーツカフェを設置するのに適した場所を理解することが難しかったです。この環境で働くのは初めてだったので、経験不足で多くのミスをしました。
・それをどのように対処しましたか？
試行錯誤を繰り返しました。同僚のタイガさんがインターンシップを通して指導してくれたので、自分のミスに気づき、修正する方法を学ぶことができました。
◆学びと成長について
・インターンシップを通じて新しく学んだことは何ですか？
日本の企業がどのように運営されているかを学びました。マーケティングのプロセスと、その精密さについても学びました。
・スキルや知識はどのように成長したと感じますか？
学校では得られない実務経験を積むことができました。プロジェクトに取り組み、学校で学んだことを実際に応用できました。
・自分の強みや才能はどのように仕事に活かされたと思いますか？
多くの批判的思考と創造性を必要とするポジションに配置されたので、自分の思考力が試されました。
◆サポートとフィードバックについて
・指導担当の先輩やチームメンバーからのサポートについてどう感じましたか？
サポートは素晴らしかったです。皆とても親切でフレンドリーで、迷うことはありませんでした。
・もっとサポートがあればよかったと感じる部分はありましたか？
いいえ、サポートは十分でした。
・チームメンバーとのコミュニケーションについてどんな印象を持ちましたか？
皆とてもコミュニケーションが取りやすく、私の日本語が完璧でなくてもオープンに話してくれました。中には少し英語を話そうとしてくれる人もいて、とても親切でした。
・チームに貢献できたと感じますか？
3週間という短い期間でしたが、多く貢献できたと感じています。短期間で多くのアイデアを出し、いくつかの課題を一緒に乗り越えられたと思います。
・具体的にはどのように？
ブレインストーミングを通じて多くの創造的なアイデアを提案し、同僚からのフィードバックを受けました。与えられたタスクを手伝い、完了することができました。
◆インターンシップ全体の評価
・振り返って、インターンシップで良かった点は何ですか？
日本のビジネス文化や運営について多くの見識を得ることができました。日本文化に浸ることができ、日本語を練習する機会も増えました。
・改善点はありますか？
特にありません。
・Totsuという会社に対する客観的な印象は？
Totsuは素晴らしい会社で、素晴らしいビジョンを持つ素晴らしい人々がいます。将来また一緒に働ける機会があればと思います。
・Totsuの社員に対する印象は？
社員の皆さんはとても勤勉で親切です。情熱的で、自分の仕事にどれだけ情熱を注いでいるかがよくわかります。私をサポートしてくれたことにとても感謝しています。
